The 3Ms at Easter 2008

A variety of services were offered in Holy Week - the services on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday where the theme of Faith and Justice was explored - those attending were left with a greater appreciation of the issues and how the impact of faith could affect them. Grateful thanks are extended to Rev Michael Paterson , Lord Gill and Professor Boulten for their thought provoking addresses.

On Easter morning an even hardier band of about 60 from the 3Ms and other local churches assembled before dawn at the top of Blackford Hill, where a short service and communion were celebrated. A light dusting of snow underfoot accompanied by a ‘breezy’ northerly wind ensured that all were well wrapped up. The service led by all the ministers of the 3Ms told the story of that first Easter Day.

Renewed and refreshed we left, some to partake of the Bacon Rolls and coffee on offer at Morningside United, others to go home.

An Observation by the writer   As the sun rose and its light caught the snow on the mountains to the west and north we were able to appreciate the beauty of the earth and focus on our stewardship of it. (Ben Lomond some 94 km west was visible) At the close of our devotions mother nature offered us an image of the enduring cycle of life by the sight of two large skeins of geese flying north to their summer breeding grounds.

On Good Friday a hardy group of about 60 worshippers from the 3Ms assembled in the Grange Cemetery where a service was held at lunchtime, a quick adjournment for hot soup in Butterflies restored warmth to all and prepared them for a service in Christ Church. In the evening we joined with our neighbours at St Catherine’s Argyle for the traditional Good Friday service - the last joint service for Victor Laidlaw, prior to his retirement at the end of April.
