Climate Change   To achieve the target set by the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 2009, as a community, we should reduce our emissions by some 4.5 tons of CO2 in the coming year.  Some small steps can be taken by all of us, by thinking and acting in a greeener fashion as we go about our daily lives.  Remember the effects of climate change may affect those least able to help themselves.

500 Miles an Edinburgh based charity supplying prosthetics in Malawi and Zambia. These projects are worthwhile because for a small one-off spend per disabled person, prosthetic and orthotic support and orthopaedic and plastic surgery can have a life transforming effect for that individual. An operation to correct a club foot on a child living in rural Zambia costs around £100 and the cost of supplying an average prosthesis/orthosis to an adult in Malawi or Zambia is around £60. For the individual, receiving an operation or a device which allows him or her to be mobile and therefore to have a normal childhood, get an education, earn a living and participate in community life is truly life transforming.
